Its history and atmosphere and location.
The room was a bit noisy.
The Algonquin is a fabulous historic hotel full of atmosphere and ghosts of literary past. Check out the wall paper in the hallways.

Helpful staff, and good location.
Way too small, over-priced.
Nice staff, but it was very cramped and more like a 3 star rather than a 4 star.

The hotel's deco is traditional and classy. Feel like living in the old NYC.
The room is pretty small with limited move around space at all.
This is an older building but it is clean and classy. Great location, right in the city, walking distance to everywhere. More for leisure stay, but not build for family or business style. Room is quite small with limited move around space. Internet connection is slow. So so friendly staffs. Other than these, the hotel itself makes up for everything and considers as a pleasant stay. read more

Beautiful close to Times Square.
Construction starting at 7 am. Manager was very uncaring and not honest in her statements.
The room was very small. My kids bedroom is larger. Sleeping well until 6:45 am. When construction workers started talking and yelling outside our window. Then work started at 7 and that was the end of sleep. If you stay there don't plan on staying out late to enjoy the city. Great place to stay if you plan to go to NBC Today show. You will be gone before noise starts. Manager was very uncaring, and made untrue statements. read more

Good location.
Rooms were very small, finishings not high quality, not entirely clean.

This hotel is in no way a 4 star deluxe hotel. The rooms are extremely small and are finished very plainly. Additionally the bed skirts are dirty. Additionally when we first checked in, our rooms were on the 2nd floor with a view and just above a row of trash bins which smelled and were emptied for over an hour at 2am in the morning. Also our rooms had window AC units. We moved to higher up rooms the next day but they were still very small and not as finished or clean as a 4 star should be. read more

Didn't. Pathetic excuse of a 4 star .
Small / old / cramped / no luxuries.
Historic doesn't mean 4 star. The Alamo is historic but I don't want to sleep in it. Small room. No coffee maker. Loud halls. Give me a break.
