Built in 1920, this "timeless" Gold Coast "landmark" has a "knowledgeable" staff, an "overwhelmingly beautiful" lobby brimming with flowers, "fine dining" (including Drake Bros. Steaks Chicago) and a harpist-assisted afternoon tea that's "worth the visit alone"; the underwhelmed claim that this Italianate "grande dame is a little tired", with "elegant" but "stylistically dated" rooms that "vary greatly" – luckily, a renovation is underway.

Great location. Nice architecture.
It is run-down and they keep the hot water temperature very low, therefore
I was very uncomfortable showering with warm water that felt cold.

Anyone that likes to shower with hot water will experience the shower as cold. Very unpleasant! Definitely not a 4 star hotel experience.

The hotel was grand and the location was ideal close to shopping and restaurants.
There wasn't anything I didn't like about it.

I was beyond impressed with The Drake and the fact that I got it on Priceline I was thinking they would put us in a room back by the laundry facilities. Our room was more than adequate, the hotel was amazing and I can't wait to go back.

Very well kept.
Our room was very hot-unable to cool.

We stayed here for two nights and had a very nice stay. Hotel was close to a lot of things and very easy to get around. Room service was available.

The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.
The room and bathroom in particular left a lot to be desired.

Based upon room quality, I would not consider this a 4 star hotel.
