The price was great and location was interesting, and there was an excellent view from room.
Hallways and doors were scuffed, looked dated with a coat of paint.
The hotel was OK for the price. Not really bad for a 1 night stay alone. I would not bring a spouse for a romantic weekend. Everything seemed a little worn with another coat of paint on top and then cuffed with shoe marks.

The bed and bedding was very nice. Room was good size, though bathroom was small.
No towel ring/rack in the bathroom and was inconvenient. No convenience shop. No newspaper available.
This is a lovely hotel both in the room and the public areas. Away from the hustle-bustle of Union square which is good for the quiet, but wear your walking shoes if you are on foot, as it is nearly at the top of Nob hill, up very steep sidewalks. My only criticisms are that there are no towel ring/racks in the sink area of the bathroom, and there is no in-house convenience store. It was not possible to buy a newspaper, and there were no newspapers available at the concierge - they had run out. The newspaper boxes on the sidewalks require 4 quarters which I did not have, so I went to Illy's coffee across the street and bought a coffee I didn't need, in order to buy the newspaper. Aside from those small items, it is 4 star and very nice. read more

Excellent location. The price was excellent value for what is definitely a 4-star hotel. Staff were really nice and helpful.
