The beds were very comfortable.
This hotel was listed as 4 stars on priceline and while this is one of the nicer places I've stayed in Santa Cruz, it really was not four stars. I've stayed in Best Western's that were equally as nice that had 2.5 or 3 star ratings and Chaminade was in my opinion about a 2.5 rating.

Located in a beautiful wooded area.
Initially put us in a handicap room - requested change. Poor customer service.
This is not a 4 star hotel. The handicapped room was inadequate for our needs. Everything was low for a wheelchair, clothes dragged on the floor in the closet, no place to put toiletries in the bathroom, hand-held shower head, specialty toilet, grab bars everywhere, etc. It's wonderful they have these accommodations for those who need it but it works against those who don't. After the first night, we asked to be put in another room, which they did. The other big disappointment was on Thanksgiving day. The restaurant wasn't open until 12:00 noon but they advertised a complimentary continental breakfast until 10:30. As we were getting ready, the power went off in our room (our hair-blower tripped the power). We called the front desk to request the power be put back on and we may be a little late getting to the breakfast because of the power outage. Someone came and turned the power back on. We made it to the breakfast at 10:25 with 5 minutes to spare. However, they had already removed most of the food. I called the front desk regarding the situation but nothing was done. I believe a 4 star hotel would of made sure we got something to eat, especially since the power outage was due to an electrical issue in their hotel. read more

The location was wonderful, quiet, calm, with panoramic views of Santa Cruz and ocean.
After our credit card being charged, hotel applied additional $16.00 per night. Unlocked hallway doors.
We stayed in the mid-week. It was very quiet, calm and the panoramic views from the main terraces were spectacular. The room was large and very comfortable. The grounds were beautifully landscaped. It was a great getaway. I enjoyed the serenity.

Spa was nice.
Originally so - so hotel made nice by cosmetic upgrades.
My wife and I were hoping for an affordable getaway. We found the price to be a good bargain for the 4 stars. But in the end this is a cosmetic upgrade on a older hotel. The rooms are big, but potentially too big. The fixtures in the bathroom were falling down. Everything got a new coat of paint, but the old crappy closet doors are still in place, and the thermostat is just like the one in grandma's house. We got a room next to the staircase, and there was so much noise transfer that every single person that went up the stairs woke us up, and we are both deep sleepers. read more
