The hotel is beautiful, we had a room overlooking the ocean and at night would fall asleep with the sound of waves! The location of this hotel is amazing, the restaurants are pricey and you have to pay for umbrellas and chair, but apart from this all was wonderful

Wouldn't stay there again but it was nice. Pool was very small, 'private' beach was even smaller. Loved the location on Kalakaua. Food at the resort was over priced. Room was very small.

Beautifully appointed inside and out with charming reminders of the "old days" in Hawaii while still providing every modern convenience imaginable. Live music under the banyon tree twice daily. Just step outside to the pool and literally a few more steps to the beautiful beach and the ocean lapping at your toes.

It is a beautiful hotel with direct access to Waikiki beach. Great location (for dinning and shopping) and very nice outdoor bar. But the hotel is one of the oldest hotel in the area, and even after renovation, guest rooms are not very impressive. It is clean, but still can see the age. AC are loud in the room (both mine and my parents) and you can hear street performance until 10 or 11 at night (It could be quieter in some upgraded rooms facing the ocean). In general, it is a very nice hotel, definitely worth the money we paid. If you are a tourist and want to do shopping or sightseeing, I definitely recommend it; but if you just want to relax by the beach, this hotel can be crowded and noisy. ...

Family Traveling with Young Children
Initially we were put into a king room with one bed (2 kids and 2 adult travelers). There was no way that we would stay in that room for even an hour! When we contacted the hotel manager his response to me inviting him to the room to experience it for himself was something to the effect that he was not denying that the room was as described, he was well aware of the condition of the room. He said that he had no rooms for us and I suggested that he put us into 2 rooms until the rooms became available. We were ready to leave. His first reaction was to refuse that and offered to send us all across the street to the Sheraton. Eventually, after lengthy discussions with him he offered to put us into two rooms (which were 100% better) and then on the second night we were moved to a tower room, (which was beautiful). Unfortunately, we had to fight for the accommodation and service that we should have received in the first place. It seemed that he granted us this under duress.

We needed to talk to the guest service manager to finally get what we were entitled to with a view of the city (street below), but it was better than our first to choices. caused a lot of frustration upon our arrival.

elevators were a little slow.
This hotel is as expected. Excellent location on the beach. 5 star service. Great outdoor lounge/ bar with nightly live entertainment. Pool a little small, but not heavily used by guests. We stayed 7 nights in mid Feb 2011 and really enjoyed ourselves.

After leaving the Westin Princeville Ocean Villas the day before, arriving here at the Moana Surfrider was a shock. This property is old. The hotel was cramped, noisy and also was overpriced. We were greeted with a mandatory resort fee. This facility is not a resort in my opinion. The pool is smaller than some private pools. There are dozens of restaurants right outside the hotel, so no need to pay them any more money than necessary. Our room was so cramped; the bed took up most of the floor space. Bathroom was like a cruise ship bathroom. Single paned original windows did nothing to block out the street noise below. The hotel has been re-decorated, but not good enough. There are other newer and nicer looking properties on the strip.
