The Vagabond Inn Monterey is located in beautiful Monterey, California. We are located only half a mile from the beautiful California coast, and within walking distance from the Convention Center and Downtown Monterey. Cannery Row, which was famed in the novel by the same name, is a street filled with restaurants, shops, and canneries. It is also home to one of the world's largest aquariums. The Monterey Bay Aquarium has over 1.4 million visitors annually, and houses over 35,000 plants and animals. From famous golf courses, Pebble Beach Golf, to famous speedways, Laguna Seca, there is something for everybody in beautiful Monterey. It was within walking distance of the conference center.
There were very few options for breakfast being offered. Nothing with protein.

This was a modest hotel, with no pool, Jacuzzi, or work out facilities. While it was clean, there was limited parking, and a very limited breakfast.

free wifi, fairly clean
terrible coffee, did not give us 2 beds, run down

It is clean and decent looking if a bit out-dated. We appreciated the free wifi as a 3.5 star hotel we stayed in later did not have that. The hotel does not have a jacuzzi as reported but I probably wouldn't have wanted to use it as it was in the parking lot. Location is convenient but not pretty on hotel row. Whole foods is across the street in a shopping complex if you need food. The hotel breakfast is mostly cardboard but more than just pastries. We did well with frozen waffles and cereal, supplementing both with strawberries we bought at the farmers market. Coffee is awful - both in room and from breakfast offering. Also, no dining room - must bring food back to room. read more

The room was large with high ceilings, a skylight and a fireplace. The location was close to downtown Monterey. The staff was helpful.
The window of the hotel room looked over a run-down back yard, where people were loud during the day.

They got rid of jacuzzi and sauna.

It was perfect for the price, clean, spacious, good location.

The room was spacious and clean. Fireplace was nice to have, although it's on a timer, so you do hear it ticking away, which can make the romantic ambiance feel a bit rushed. Room was nicely painted with a thoughtful presentation of towels, complimentary toiletries, etc. There was a little visible wear and tear here and there, but overall there was an effort to have things looks nice. We needed to get an early start, so went to the lobby for the continental breakfast right at 7:30 (when the hotel said it started). But the lobby was still locked and it didn't look like anything was set up or anyone was around, so that was disappointing as we couldn't wait. Overall it was a convenient location and decent room at a reasonable price for this area. read more
