Description of W San Francisco
Chic. Modern. Thinking. Set in the heart of downtown San Francisco's "South of Market", W San Francisco stands out with the offbeat, yet sophisticated spirit of the city it calls home. Literally stands out. On the Third Street Podium of W San Francisco, towering 46 feet above street level, is a fantastic reclining figure made of irregularly sheared bronze strips woven together. Conceived by a local artist to complement the neo-classical design of W San Francisco, the figure (with one arm draped casually over the edge of the podium) also reflects W's whimsical reinvention of public and private space. Experience it for yourself. Welcome to the W Living Room. Where we've broken down the walls of conventional design to create a completely open lobby space. Relax. Quench your spirit with a drink from The Bar at XYZ. Or play away. Specially designed board games are waiting to be brought to life. Meet. Mingle. Read. Or do whatever makes you happy. Created by Starwood Hotels and Resorts, W San Francisco offers savvy travelers the style and design they deserve. Located at Third Street and Howard, W San Francisco is adjacent to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and directly across from the Moscone Center. In an important part of the new development area called "Yerba Buena Gardens," we are five blocks from Union Square and just steps from an eclectic array of boutiques, theaters and galleries. The Metreon, a new high-tech Sony entertainment center that includes a multi-screen theater, is just one block away. Starwood Turbo Net High Speed Internet Access is available in all guest and meeting rooms. Special Condition An early departure fee of one night's room and tax applies to guests checking out prior to their departure date confirmed at check-in. It's probably "not the best place to take grandma", but this "trendy", "clublike" South of Market hotel provides plenty of joy for those into "hot" bar scenes, "modern" amenities, "dark" hallways and "minimalist" design; even if the food is only "pretty good" and the service a bit "snide", most applaud the "plush" beds in the "beautifully equipped" rooms.

The decor and new design in the 7th floor rooms.
The service is bad and the staff is unprofessional and unexperienced.

New design in the 7th floor rooms are great. The staff is quite unprofessional and need more training to work at a higher end hotel. Managers will comp you for any troubles, but why bother with an uncompetent staff in the first place.

Don't go to this W hotel 181 3rd street! It's terrible.

The room and service was awesome.

The overall experience was terrific. We had a girls get-away weekend without the kids and husbands and it was the perfect place. The conceriege gave us an excellent reccommendation for dinner. The hotel was close to everything.

The valet and concierge were nice and helpful.

Although located downtown in San Francisco the W is difficult to get in and out. The key cards to operate the elevators went out at least 3 times in the 2 days I stayed there. The channel selection on the television was sparse and centered on business and news stations.

Great service in regards to any question with transportation.
Mold on bath room walls and dirty carpet.

Over all I would stay again at any W wonder if because I went through the internet was why we had a room that didn't meet the standards in regards to every other aspect of the hotel.
