Idaho Travel Guide

Idaho is a huge state, not only in size, but in adventure. Covering two time zones, spanning the continental divide, and hosting a major portion of the Rocky Mountains, Idaho is a wonderfully diverse and scenic state. With a rather small population for its size, Idaho is home to just over 1 million people; most of whom reside in the bigger cities such as Boise, Nampa, Idaho Falls, and more. Lush green forests cover a majority of the state as do multitudes of lakes, canyons and rivers; ideal for tourism. Idaho's lands are dedicated for a large part to nine National Parks, six Wildlife Refuges and at least 30 State Parks, all of which add to the traveler's outdoor experience. Lodging in Idaho can also be a pleasant adventure. The state is riddled with down-home hotels and resorts as well as some rather unique Guest Ranches, where visitors may ride horseback alongside old-time cowboys or relax in the mountain breeze.

Idaho is famously known for its competent potato industry, however, the last few decades have brought the state into the science and technology industry, which now provides over 25% of the state's revenue. The southern cities in Idaho are focused on such economic growth and it's here that business travelers will find gold.  Boise, is by far the largest city in the state and though it all began with potatoes, the city is now setting roots in the science and technology industry as well. With over 20% of the state's population residing in and around the metropolitan area, Boise has a variety of lodging choices; simple hotels, many located downtown close to the action. Idaho Falls, another of the larger cities, is rich in history. The main destination for culture in Idaho, the Falls provides fantastic accommodations for leisure travelers.

Northern Idaho is more laid-back due to the mountainous, country setting. Coeur d'Alene, Moscow and Sandpoint are amazing destinations that host a variety of romantic Bed and Breakfasts and hotels perfect for loving couples or Guest Ranches which provide once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to live life like a rancher! While most of the cities located in the north depend primarily upon Spokane, Washington, they are special in their own right. The Rocky Mountain lakes, rivers, canyons, and scenic views make spectacular backdrops for any family or romantic vacations. Ski resorts abound in this portion of the state, as do high ranking hotels and spas, and for the cross-country tourist, RV parks, campground accommodations and cabin lodging is available. There are many scenic views in Idaho, whether passing by for leisure or business, there is always plenty to do and lodging to suite the needs of every traveler.
