Hotel Guest Reviews of the University Inn Academic Suites

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The location and the price were great. Loved the hot breakfast. Shower was above average for most motels in water pressure and temperature!
Walls were very thin. Lots of noise from the adjoining room. TV did not work properly. Staff had to come turn it on, then we were only able to unplug it to shut it off....which then meant we couldn't turn it on again.

The free hot breakfast was better than most hotels.
The rooms had poor sound insulation, you could hear people talking in the room next door and overhead.

I would recommend this hotel as a last resort, it is better than some 1 stars. I may try it again, but only if I couldn't get a booking at the other hotels I like.

Staff very friendly and helpful
not very accommodating for handicap person(s)

I stayed with a friend and our boys while checking out UMaine. My friend is handicap and requires a cane to walk, and/or wheelchair, depending on how far she has to go, and there is a large step up from the front door to the lobby with no ramp to be found. They did accommodate us and put us into a handicap room on the first floor, however it was almost all the way down at the end of the hall. With her walker it was a tough go for her. There was sliding doors in the room, so I was able to park the car right in front of our room for easy access and loading/unloading. Again though, there was a step up into the room from the outside access point. Another issue if she required the use of her wheelchair. Another issue for somebody with limited mobility is, breakfast is downstairs in the basement. There wasn't any elevator in order for my friend to utilize, so she needed to use her cane and myself to assist her in getting down the stairs. Railing is also only on one side. With somebody that has no use of their right arm, with no railing, it made it very difficult for her to get back up the stairs. The handicap spots are also placed in the wrong areas. The handicap spot wasn't in front of our room, but off to the left in front of regular rooms. The spot in the front would not be 'van accessible'. It is in the middle of the aisle at the front lobby with a wall in front - requiring additional walking. The walls are very thin and you can hear those next to you, above you or in the hall. The room itself was nice and did exactly what we needed it do for the night. I would recommend for people that do not have mobility issues. They also had a card in the room for 'room service'. We got there late, around 9pm, and hungry. We called to order room service (reasonably priced too) and we were told by the front desk that they don't offer that anymore. I suggested that they removed these cards from the room. ...read more

The staff at the University Inn Academic Suites is far and away the best hotel staff I have ever dealt with. Every request we made was granted quickly and with a smile. They offered a wealth of information about the local area.

If this hotel is available during your trip, book it. You won't find a better price, better room, or more helpful staff anywhere else. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The view from the balconies is beautiful. The breakfast they serve is much better than the typical continental breakfast at more expensive chain hotels. To date, this would have to be the best hotel experience I've had. ...read more

The beds were only full sized but felt like only doubles, made it difficult to sleep comfortably.

EVERYONE there was friendly and helpful!
see short review:

My boyfriend and I have stayed at the Academic Suites once before. The room we had previously was upstairs, clean and looked like it had just been remodeled! This past week when we stayed, we were expecting the similiar "feel". This time, we had a room down staris it seemed cramped and dark. We were expecting the same type of open and clean room like last time. Almost as if the hotel only remodeled the top floor and not the bottom?? I did love that we could park right in front of our room, and the sliding glass door provided easy access to take the dog out. Oh, the staff are Fantastick! The two ladies at the front desk, the gentleman that worked in the dining room and even the lady that was cleaning the rooms! They are what will keep bringing us back!! :) ...read more
